Houston Grub Park featuring Black-owned food trucks opens today

HOUSTON — The Houston Grub Park last but not least opens Saturday, shining a spotlight on aspiring Black chefs and offering them an option to put their expertise on a platter.

As the window opened at the Nacho Don food items truck, it’s the pre-opening and the initially official get for the family members operate cafe on wheels.

“Nothing is store bought. Every little thing is contemporary. We make our pico on site, our guac on site. Even our nacho chips are designed on website,” explained Arthur Wilson, proprietor of Nacho Don & Rollie’s Frozen Custard.

Wilson’s two meals vans will locate a new household inside the Houston Grub Park come Saturday.

“The opening weekend will be 15 Black-owned vans and then we will grow to a lot more,” said Christopher Bush, director of Black Assistance Chamber.

The park is offering opportunities to Black-owned food items trucks throughout the Houston space.

“To give small organization house owners who are having a possibility a likelihood,” Bush mentioned.

“It’s just going to be a really big selection of a good deal of Black-owned companies that get an chance to get our feet off the floor,” Wilson reported.

The culinary thought was carried out by the Black Company Chamber and Bush.

“I really feel that a strong Black group is a much better region,” Bush claimed.

For Bobbie Patterson, owner of Bobbie Que’s Red Truck, it’ll finally be a permanent spot to shine.

“Rib strategies, fried shrimp, gumbo. I do a little little bit of every little thing,” Patterson claimed. “A lot of my consumers are contacting me up and expressing, ‘Where are you tonight? In which are you likely to be tomorrow?’”

He’ll be parked alongside various other foods vans supplying anything from gumbo tacos to lobster pizza, hoping you will end by for a bite.

“Give these men a test, and see if they can become a single of your favorites,” Bush mentioned.

The Houston Grub Park opens at 4 p.m. Saturday at 1615 South Loop West, and proceeds from the park will go toward scholarships for Black fathers who want to go back again to school.
